In the article, called to the readers attention, the author on the basis of some new documents and sources from the Russian archives (AVP RF, SVR RF) exposes aggressive plans of fascist Germany in Afghanistan on the eve and during the first months of the Great Patriotic War. The author also analyses initial forms of cooperation between the USSR and Great Britain in Afghanistan when the anti-Hitlerite coalition was born. This article may be of interest not only to the Second World War historians, but also to international relations researchers and scientists who study policy and history of Afghanistan in the XXth century.

A discussion on the principal features of Japanese expressions of approximation (of the types MORE THAN/LESS THAN such as IJOO, KYOO, CHOO, AMARI etc.) involves analysis of their eligibility for various contexts (conditionality vs. factivity, apposition vs. delimitation, stressing significant and insignificant quantity, topicality), viewed in dynamic interaction of their stylistic usage, semantic structure, and conventionally implied meanings. A comparison between the groups of MORE–type and LESS–type approximatives opens onto the issue of linguistic asymmetry and provides some clues for comparative research.
