Andrei N. Artizov is Class 1 Full Counselor of State of the Russian Federation an Acting State Advisor of the Russian Federation. He graduated from the Moscow State Historical Archives Institute in 1980. From 1980 till 1982 he served in the Soviet Army. In 1980 and from 1982 till 1984 he worked as a senior archivist at the State Archives of the Kalinin region, State Archives of the Kaluga region. From 1984 till 1988 he was a head of the archives department of the Kaluga Regional Executive Committee. From 1988 till 1989 he worked as a senior Lecturer at the Kaluga State Pedagogical Institute. In 1989 – 1991 he served as an assistant, senior assistant at the department of Central Committee of the CPSU. In 1991 - 1997 he was a consultant, head of department, member of the board of the State Archival Service of Russia. In 1997 - 2001 he became a consultant, head of the Department and then an advisor to the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation. In 2001 - 2004 he is a State Secretary - Deputy Head of the Federal Archival Service of Russia. Since May 2004, he became the Deputy Director of the Federal Archival Agency. And on December 15, 2009 he was titled a head of the Federal Archival Agency.
Doctor of Historical Sciences. Author and editor of more than 150 scientific works on national history of the twentieth century, historiography and archives.
