Автором охаракте- ризованы ведущие научные и научно-популярные работы по данной тематике с первой четверти XX в. до нашего времени, проанализированы основные идеи и системы взглядов американских историков. В статье выявлены общие тенденции развития исторических представлений о месте и роли США в данном конфликте
