В статье сравниваются экономические кризисы 1929-1933 и 2008-2009 гг. Автор анализирует разнообразные причины кризиса 1929-1933 гг. и приходит к выводу, что среди них особую роль сыграла низкая покупательная способность населения США 1920-х гг. Реформы Ф.Д. Рузвельта 1930-х гг. увеличили покупательную способность населения в два раза, что серьезно способствовало выходу из кризиса. В современном экономическом кризисе главной причиной, на взгляд автора, была неоконсервативная экономическая политика, которой правительство США следовало на протяжении 30 лет начиная с 1980-х гг.
